Named after the British-American botanist and ornithologist Thomas Nuttall.
Growing in popularity thanks to fast growth rate, ease of transplantation, durability, and vibrant fall colors.
Once known as Quercus nuttallii but changed to Q. Texana, which forced the renaming of the Texas Red Oak, now known as Q. buckleyi.

Grows fine in high pH (alkaline) soils, unlike most other oaks
