History of
the Tree Species

  • Common street/park tree in 19th and 20th centuries thanks to tolerance of urban conditions.
  • Led to overplanting that ultimately produced a monoculture of elms with little resistance to diseases and pests.
  • Colonial Spirit® developed and cultivated for its superior resistance to disease, namely Dutch Elm disease.
